BARRY J. HERSHEY
(Writer, Director)
Barry J. Hershey marks his feature debut as director and co-writer of "The Empty Mirror." Hershey
studied filmmaking at Harvard, MIT and USC, where he received his MFA in Cinema. He
previously directed a number of short films, all visual poems: "Odyssey," "Filmmaker,"
"Untitled 1987," "Lucifer: God's Most Beautiful Angel" and "Sound of Peace." Among the
many honors the films received are a Gold Hugo at the Chicago International film Festival
and a CINE Golden Eagle.
DAVID D. JOHNSON
(Producer, Visual Effects Supervisor)
David D. Johnson produced "The Empty Mirror" and also served as Visual Effects Supervisor.
Johnson's production and special effects company, Pacific Vision, is based in South Pasadena,
California. Prior to his involvement with "The Empty Mirror," Johnson worked with Barry J.
Hershey as producer of the short films "The Sound of Peace" and "Filmmaker 1987." He also
worked on "PeeWee's Playhouse." Among other recent credits, Johnson and Pacific Vision have
created digital visual effects for "Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery," "Mystery,
Alaska," and "Austin Powers, The Spy Who Shagged Me."
JAY ROACH
(Producer/Second Unit Co-Director)
Jay Roach worked with Barry J. Hershey on two of his short films, "Odyssey" and "The
Sound of Peace." Among Roach's variety of credits: story/associate producer on "Blown Away,"
and writer/coproducer on the television series "Lifepod." More recently, Roach made his
feature film directing debut with "Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery," followed
by "Mystery, Alaska" and "Austin Powers, The Spy Who Shagged Me."
WILLIAM DANCE
(Producer/Projection Sequences Editor/Second Unit Co-Director)
William Dance has written and rewritten many screenplays and has worked many different
production jobs on feature films, commercials, and cable television. He wrote, directed
and edited several episodes of the Arts and Entertainment series "Combat At Sea" prior
to joining the crew of "The Empty Mirror" as projection sequences editor, then second
unit co-director, with Roach, and finally as producer.
FRED ELMES, ASC
(Director of Photography)
Fred Elmes is a distinguished Director of Photography with many credits in feature films,
television films, commercials, and music videos. Elmes' recent feature film credits include
Ang Lee's "The Ice Storm" and upcoming "To Live On." He also photographed "In The Gloaming,"
an HBO film which starred and was directed by Christopher Reeves. Among other notable feature
credits are David Lynch's "Eraserhead," "Blue Velvet," and "Wild At Heart" and John Cassavetes'
"Opening Night" and "Killing of a Chinese Bookie."
MARC GROSSMAN
(Editor)
Marc Grossman has edited commercials, television shows and feature films since attending
film school at UCLA. His association with Zalman King includes stints as editor of the
Showtime series "Red Shoe Diaries" as well as the feature films "Wild Orchid," "Two Moon
Junction" and "Delta of Venus." Grossman edited one of Jim Carrey's first films, "Once
Bitten". He recently worked on V.V. Hsu's debut feature, "My American Vacation."
TIM COLOHAN
(Production Designer)
Tim Colohan made the leap from Set Decorator to Production Designer on "The Empty Mirror."
As Set Decorator, Tim worked on "Boogie Boy," "Loved," "Coldblooded," "Rumpelstiltskin,"
and "Threesome."
JOHN FRIZZELL
(Composer)
"I Still Know What You Did Last Summer" is the most recent film release featuring a score
by John Frizzell. Some of Frizzell's other recent credits are "Dante's Peak," "Alien
Resurrection," and "Jane Austen's Mafia." In 1996 he scored the hit film "Beavis And
Butthead Do America."
MELINDA ESHELMAN
(Costume Designer)
Melinda Eshelman's career as a costume designer includes a long association with director
Abel Ferrara. She has designed costumes for three of his features: "The Blackout," "The
Addiction," and "The Funeral." In 1998 her work was seen on HBO's "Poodle Springs." One
of her first credits as assistant wardrobe was on Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs."
JUDY COURTNEY
(Casting Director)
Judy Courtney's career as casting director dates back to 1980's television movie, "The Man
Who Corrupted Hadleyburg." She cast the feature films "84, Charing Cross Road," "Black
Rainbow," and "Jackknife," as well as Victor Nunez's breakthrough films "Ruby In Paradise"
and "Ulee's Gold." Ms. Courtney died on October 18, 1998 of complications from rheumatoid
arthritis.
